Sharing learnings after spending time in 2 diff industries: consulting and start ups.

A) No one cares about your development more than you. If you want to grow, you need to make it a priority and then communicate it because your manager has a million other things on their minds.

B) Look for a manager that cares about your development. Caring for me means listening, acting on it, providing constructive feedback, knowing what you wanna improve on and help you get there. They are also comfortable w giving you an opinion indep of business needs.

C) If you’re unhappy, you can try to improve your situation, make peace with it or leave. Time is the most valuable currency and if you wanna waste your limited time being upset, you are the one left with regrets!

D) Try to get a sense of what your end goal is. Ask yourself if what you are doing now helps w that. This changes as priorities changes but thinking about it regularly helps you to live intentionally and not drift from habit to habit.

E) Ask when you are unsure/want change. Value add when you can. Don’t expect people to read your mind, don’t be afraid to speak up, don’t let people bullshit you. It is also a fast way to learn!

These are just some off the top of my head. Hopefully it will be useful for some! 🙂
