Growing up in a girls’ school for ten years, surrounded by a family of strong women, I was shaped (almost without realising it till I reflected on it) into someone who tries to show up with that same strength.
But the women who influenced me most weren’t just strong. They were kind, inspiring, wise and I know they truly cared for me.
They walked with me through job transitions, family challenges, moments of self-doubt, and seasons where I genuinely didn’t know which path to take.
They didn’t just point me in a direction – they shared with me perspectives that I didn’t know I needed..
Some of my mentors and I started our relationship in 2017/2018 and they not only came to my wedding, we still catch up to this day. These are moments that I really treasure.
One pattern I’ve come to recognise in myself is that I am drawn to women who lead with both strength and heart. I realize that even the coaches and therapists I’ve chosen to work with over the past six years have been exactly that.
Strong women who know when to push you and when to hold space for you. Who delivers tough love without losing warmth. That balance is also something I hope to bring to my coaching clients as well.
Every season of life looks a little different, and I’ve been so lucky to have women I can turn to – women whose experiences and perspectives continue to shape how I see the world.
I have been reading some books about ancient tribes recently.
I realized that long before it became coined as ‘mentorship’, we were already doing this – gathering around fires, sharing pearls of wisdom and passing them down from one generation to the next. We were never meant to figure this out alone.
I am who I am because I have been lucky enough to stand on the shoulders of giants.
Women who gave generously, not because it was required of them, but because they understood instinctively, that when one of us rises, we all do.
